HYDERABAD | 04-11-2026 : A control room has been activated at the Bhadrachalam Sub-Collector’s office in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district as authorities respond to Cyclone Murasu and a forecast of heavy rainfall, according to The Hindu. The district administration has issued a public safety advisory asking residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay out of water bodies.

The India Meteorological Department forecast heavy rain in the district for November 3 and 4, The Hindu reported. The control room has been brought into operation again within a week and can be reached at 08743-232444.

Rain warning and local precautions

The district’s advisory focuses on limiting unnecessary movement and avoiding entry into water bodies during the forecast period. The Hindu reported that several areas of the erstwhile undivided Khammam district experienced drizzle under cloudy skies on Tuesday, November 3.

Those observations were separate from the forecast of heavy rainfall for Bhadradri Kothagudem. The report described the control room’s activation and the public advisory as measures taken in view of the latest cyclone.

A photograph accompanying The Hindu’s report showed a scene in Naguluppalapadu village in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district after Murasu crossed the coast near Ongole on November 3, according to its caption.

Andhra Pradesh steps up road emergency response

In neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, the roads department established 30 control rooms and assistance centres along state, major district and national highways to coordinate its response to Murasu, Deccan Chronicle reported. These arrangements are separate from the control room activated in Bhadrachalam.

Andhra Pradesh minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy said 40 coordinating officers had been appointed to supervise relief and road restoration. According to Deccan Chronicle, the department identified 178 locations vulnerable to the cyclone’s effects and placed them under special surveillance.

The minister said the control rooms were operating around the clock and reviewing conditions on the ground, in a statement issued from Amaravati on November 3. Free telephone help desks had also been arranged in major municipal corporations to assist residents, the newspaper reported.

The department deployed 471 JCBs and 421 power saws across Andhra Pradesh for emergency operations. Relief teams with personnel, machinery and essential materials were working at 53 locations, according to Deccan Chronicle’s account of the minister’s statement.

Monitoring bridges and flood-prone roads

Officials in Andhra Pradesh were monitoring water flow around roads, bridges and culverts to prevent blockages, while taking precautions on low-lying and flood-prone road stretches. The minister said crews were clearing fallen trees and identifying hazardous dry or dead trees for removal.

Personnel and machinery were on standby to repair flood-related breaches, with sandbags and construction materials stocked at vulnerable points. Special disaster-response teams remained alert at locations with a history of road breaches, Deccan Chronicle reported.

Engineering officials and field staff were monitoring conditions and participating in relief operations. Leave had been cancelled to maintain staff availability during emergencies, according to the newspaper.
